3 Songs, 3 Circles, 1 MegaMix

AmalgaNations is the study of a beautiful sadness. This project represents differing yet overlapping cycles.

By researching how different cultures cope with their longing, one can create and use timbres that define

their perseverance in facing adversity. This project explores what makes a sound “cultural,” focusing on

utilizing advanced Formant Synthesis and analysing the phonetic patterns of Portuguese, Japanese, and

Hindustani/South Indian languages to create a universally exclusive form of expression. The lyrics are all gibberish, but have

accents that have been carefully crafted to emulate cultural singing.

In The Boar Samba, Afro‐Brazilian call‐and‐response and driving samba drums meet wistful Native and

European timbres to form Brazil’s bittersweet “saudade”.

In The Serpent Dance, Micro‐tuned synths, Carnatic vocal lines, and North‐Indian/Middle‐Eastern textures spiral like sandstorms. Their bending pitches and grainy tones evoke the lure and inevitable cost of a foul temper and its redirection into a strong sense of justice.

Sparse Japanese folk strings and fluttering winds are edged with sleek K/J‐pop electronics. The fragile blend of The Heavenly Music of Birds embraces “mono no aware”, the awareness that beauty is fleeting; only by letting go can we truly hear it.

There is no real end to suffering, which implies no end to betterment. Each finale heralds a fresh start. The

songs stack onto themselves until Anger, Ignorance, and Greed collapse into a single radiant flicker of hope,

“AmalgaNations”. Three vivid voices, Justice, Longing, and Appreciation, converge and drown in a cycling storm of

conflicting sounds, forging a celebration that never truly ends; it only evolves, one glorious loop at a time, just like

festivals, morals, and time.
